Shock and Awe

Some of you may remember a grumpy post from February about certain issues with Blogger, and that I emailed about them. What I didn't tell anyone was that I got a reply later that day saying to just hold tight, and that my patience would be rewarded.

This morning I went to Blogger's site and not only saw the new design, but also saw the link directing me to this page describing what had happened. Needless to say, I was very surprised by this. Very surprised and very happy—not only with the fact that Blogger has caught up with the cutting edge CMSs, but with who they got to help with the designs. People I had only started to read a few months ago. People who know much more about blogging and design than I could hope to reach for right now.

Excuse me for a bit while I start playing under the hood to see how this baby rides now...

p.s. For those that are interested, Doug Bowman has posted a thorough explanation of his process of redesigning the Blogger site on his own blog.

And here I am, testing out Blogger's comment functions. This is only a test.

I have a couple of small issues with the new stuff, but most of those will be ironed out as I start playing with the additional tags and seeing how they work in the page. I'll probably end up doing a bottom-up rewrite of the code (with appropriate tweaks in the design) after I'm all done.

I'm not sure I'm too fond of the 'must have a Blogger profile or you post as Anonymous' stricture on commenting. I think the standard that's been set by Movable Type, WordPress and so many others would be a more elegant approach to commenting...

I see what you say about spamming (and now that you brought it up, I shudder to think what would happen if spammers ever got their claws into Blogger's commenting system). I guess I was just being crotchety.
